FAQ

Common questions

What moves the XAU/USD price during the day?

Gold reacts mainly to US dollar strength, real interest rate expectations and demand for safe assets. US inflation and employment data, Federal Reserve signals and geopolitical stress can all shift it quickly. Because gold pays no yield, higher rate expectations tend to weigh on it, while uncertainty tends to support it. Watch the US session for the sharpest moves.

Why is gold quoted in dollars when I trade from Nigeria?

XAU/USD is the global benchmark, priced in US dollars per ounce, so your profit and loss is calculated in dollars regardless of where you live. You fund in naira through bank transfer or card and the broker converts at its own rate. That means the naira-dollar rate affects what you finally receive.

What does one lot of gold actually represent?

One standard lot of XAU/USD is 100 troy ounces, so a 1.00-lot position tracks the dollar value of 100 oz. A 0.10 lot is 10 oz and a 0.01 lot is 1 oz. With one pip equal to 0.01 in price, a 1.00 lot moves $1 for every pip, which is why lot size matters so much.

Is gold more volatile than currency pairs?

Gold often moves more in dollar terms than major forex pairs because it is priced near 4275.0 per ounce and reacts strongly to US data and risk sentiment. That does not make it better or worse, only different to size. Use the position size calculator and keep your stop distance realistic for gold's range.

Can I trade gold on weekends?

No, the XAU/USD market is closed over the weekend and reopens at the start of the trading week. Prices can gap between Friday's close and Monday's open, so a stop loss may fill away from your level. Avoid holding large positions into the weekend unless you accept that gap risk.
